Penydarren BGC was established in 1985 and was originally based as St John's Church Hall, the main club activities were table-tennis and board games, this is where we joined the Boys & Girls Club of Wales. In 1994 our application to lease our now home, The Bont was successful. Thanks to funding from a variety of sources work started on The Bont, we were able to improve the playing-surface and a changing rooms along with a club-house being built, something which was extremely impressive to whoever visited. Over 30 years later, after participating in the local Merthyr League and South Wales Senior League the club fulfilled its life-long ambition of playing Welsh League Football in 2018. After winning the Welsh League Division 3 tittle first time of asking, we now sit in the newly-formed Welsh League Division One which is the third-tier of Welsh Football. Club membership currently stands around 250 along with a dedicated group of volunteers who make the club.
In June of 2020 ground improvements started at The Bont in preparation of the Welsh League Division 1 2020/2021 campaign. The clubhouse was repainted, an additional 20 seats were installed along with outdoor toilets.
Penydarren BGC caught the eyes of many in 2018 where as a fifth-tier side we reached the quarter-finals of the JD Welsh Cup where we faced Bangor City live on S4C. This cup-run's one of our proudest achievements, even though we failed to progress past the quarter-finals, Ryan Giggs presented the club with an award for our "Outstanding Contribution Award" which highlighted the outstanding achievements made by players, management, volunteers and supporters during the competition.
