Show Racism the Red Card Month of Action | Penydarren BGC vs. Swansea University

Updated: Oct 8, 2022

We are hosting our Show Racism the Red Card Month of Action fixture against Swansea University this weekend.

During October, football clubs across Wales show their support for Show Racism the Red Card by delivering a matchday action demonstrating their stance on eradicating racism from the beautiful game. These actions act as a vehicle to deliver an anti-racism message to the community through the power of sport.

We at Penydarren Boys & Girls Club will be showing our support this month and joining the action to support and challenge racism in football and society. Both teams today will be holding up Show Racism the Red Cards prior to kick off and will be uniting together to stand against racism

Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. The organisation utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. The campaign delivers educational workshops to young people and adults in their schools, workplaces and at events held in stadiums.

The Show Racism the Red Card action weeks forms part of the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) Football People Action Weeks.

The Action Weeks aim to unite supporters, clubs, ethnic minorities and communities affected by discrimination, Increases public awareness and tackle discrimination in football.

The Action Weeks challenges discrimination, promotes integration values amongst youth and celebrate the input of all individuals that strive to make football a game for all, regardless of who we are, where we are from and what our beliefs are.

The support from clubs continues to help the campaign progress their work in Wales. Last season the campaign worked with over 20,000 young people and held a number of educational events at stadiums across the country supported by professional players. The campaign will be expanding their program of challenging racism in football during this season, to work with more grassroots clubs and players across Wales..
