It was the Keiron Galls side who dominated the early proceedings and set the tone for the Welsh Veterans derby.
In the 4th minute the deadlock was broken at The Bont Playing Fields through Penydarren's Robert Lewis who scored a wonder goal after he cut inside past the Nelson defender to bend his shot into the far top corner. Unbelievable goal from the full back and surely a goal of the season contender.
Penydarren BGC had another great chance to extend their lead just minutes later as Ian Morris turned his man inside the box to unleash a great effort which was denied by a phenomenal save from the visiting goalkeeper.
After continued dominance Penydarren BGC found their second of the game through striker Ricky John who finished composedly into the bottom right hand corner after a neat pull back from winger Steve White.
Keiron Galls side added to their tally just 5 minutes later this time through Penydarren winger Nicky Francis who remarkably fired past the advancing visiting goalkeeper into the far top corner.
Penydarren BGC were awarded a penalty just before half time by referee Paul Walters after Ricky John was brought down in the area. From the resulting penalty Steve White comfortably slotted home from 12 yards to extend their lead to 4 goals.

Ricky John then found his second and Penydarren’s sixth of the game minutes later after a fantastic delivery from Shane Davies was palyed towards the back post where Richard Collins headed the ball back to the feet of John who remarkably fired past the Nelson goalkeeper.

After the game Gall said “It was a Really good 1st half performance for us as we had lots of spells with possession and took a 4-goal lead going into the break with a goal of the season contender from Robert Lewis who is always a Coach pleaser. Gall added on his team’s performance “We played some very good attacking football and looked very comfortable at the back. I’m Super pleased to have won the Derby and the bragging rights are just the icing on the cake. Unfortunately, our next game is March unless we have a Semi Final Cup game but confidence is sky high and us as a team just need to keep up the hard work and effort up and that also goes for myself as the Manager but it was a great win and we are top of the league so it’s very happy times for Penydarren BGC Veterans.
