Penydarren BGC take on Albion Rovers this weekend in the Semi-Finals of the Welsh Veterans Football League Cup.

Defender Shane Davies is looking forward to the game, but insists he and his players will need to deliver another strong performance if they’re to retain the silverware for the third consecutive time this season..

The Bont Playing Fields sides’ unbeaten run will be put to the test when they host Albion Rovers at Ebbw Vale 3G on Sunday afternoon, as they look to complete the double over the Newport based side; whom they beat 3-0 at Kimberley Park back in November.

Kieron Galls’ side currently sit top of the Welsh Veterans League and maintained their fantastic form with a comprehensive 7-0 victory over title challengers Swansea University last weekend at the Loadlock Stadium.

The Welsh International began by saying,The season so far has been as good as every other season really with such a competitive and committed squad.

Speaking on the game, Davies said, “The cup tie-on Sunday is one that the boys are all relishing for, due to the fight they put up against us in the league. It's always a battle with Albion who are a very resilient side. We will approach the game the same as any other with professionalism and immaterial of our opponents".

Davies is under no illusions that Sunday’s game will be a tough encounter: “If they are at full strength it will be a very tough fixture as they have some good experienced ex Welsh league players who have a good knowledge of game. We are eager to retain our good form, and with so many good players in the squad everyone is striving to keep up a good standard on the pitch and to cement their place in the starting line-up each week”.

He finished: “It would be fantastic to get some more silverware this year and carry on the tradition of Penydarren Boys & Girls Club in winning trophies. It would also be brilliant for us to say thank you to Kieron Gall, Iain Pike, Mackenzie Thomas and the rest of the staff for all their hard work this year”.
