Penydarren BGC goalkeeper Price determined to claim silverware this season

Updated: Jan 29, 2019

Penydarren BGC goalkeeper Stephen Price has insisted that he is determined to pick up a trophy with the club this season, ahead of their Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup clash against STM Sports this weekend.

Penydarren BGC take on STM Sports this Saturday at Cardiff University Playing Fields in the Quarter finals of the cup.

Goalkeeper Price is looking forward to the game, but insists his players will need to deliver another strong performance if they are going to seal their place in the Semi-Final.

Kerry Mullins’ side have made an impressive start to life in the Welsh Football League after they were crowned South Wales Alliance League champions last season after their historic runs in both the FAW Trophy and the JD Welsh Cup.

The Bont Playing Fields side have won nine out of their first ten league games so far this season, the only defeat coming against Trefelin BGC who sit top of Division 3.

Penydarren BGC’s summer signing began by saying, “I think winning 9 out of 10 league games so far has been a very good start to our first Welsh League Season. We obviously have two massive quarter finals to look forward to and hopefully progress in”.

Speaking on the game, Price said, “I’m really looking forward to the challenge, we know they are a strong team which are in excellent form in this current moment and this will be a great test for us. They play on the 4g surface more regular so they have a slight advantage. However, I think the 4G surface does suit our style of play”.

However, Price makes it clear what the main aim is for the season. “Promotion is our goal and it has been since day one of the season, we still have a lot of football to play but we are currently in a great position to achieve that”.

Price is under no illusions that Saturday’s game will be a tough encounter: “Saturday will be a very tough test for us they are in a similar league position as us and I know they have been very strong at home this season. We will approach the game the same way that we have all season, Mullins will have done his homework but we will be more focused on what we have to do”

He finished: “To get my hands on some silverware with Penydarren would be amazing, I’m really enjoying it at the club so it would be the icing on the cake for me”
