A hat-trick from Joshua Brogden and a Christopher Colvin Owen goal was enough to give Kerry Mullins’ side an important away win over Tredegar Town AFC.
The visitors started on the front foot, and took the lead just a minute in through Christopher Colvin-Owen after a great cross from Alex Long wasn’t dealt with by the hosts. Colvin took full advantage by cleverly chipping the ball over the advancing Richard Webb to take Penydarren BGC into a 1-0 lead.
The Bont Playing Fields side doubled their tally just 19 minutes later as striker Joshua Brogden was brought down inside the area. From the resulting penalty Brogden composedly finished into the bottom left hand corner past the stretching Webb.
Things didn’t get any better for Tredegar as they conceded a third just before half time. Brogden again on the scoresheet after an astray back pass which feel to the feet of Colvin who teed up Brogden for his 16th of the season.
Brogden continued to look an imminent threat for Penydarren but was unable to add to his brace in the first half as Penydarren went into the break with a three-goal lead.
The second period was much more of the same as Penydarren continued their dominance with a lot of possession but failed to find the cutting edge within the final third.
In the 78th minute the hosts were reduced to ten men after midfielder James Price was given his marching orders after he put in a ferocious challenge on full back Sam Gamble.
Penydarrens’ second half dominance was finally rewarded in the 88th minute. Asa Lloyd’s cross found team mate Brogden, who fired home from close range into the bottom right-hand corner to give the visitors a deserved 4-0 lead.
It proved to be another comprehensive victory for Kerry Mullins’ side as they stay in sixth despite the win meanwhile Tredegar Town AFC move down two places into seventh.
