A brace from Alex Long and Joshua Williams strike was enough to give Kerry Mullins’ Penydarren BGC an important away win over Trethomas Bluebirds.
The visitors started on the front foot, looking sharp from the outset against a steady formed Trethomas Bluebirds side.
The deadlock was broken at the CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence just six minutes in, when winger Alex Long fired Penydarren into an early lead after the Bluebirds failed to clear their lines from a well worked free kick via Christopher Colvin-Owens.
Boosted by their goal, Penydarren continued to dominate the opening proceedings of the game and found their second in the 20th minute through Long once again.
This time, he played a quick one-two with Joshua Brogden to then strike past the advancing Gareth Williams at the near post.
Another frantic few minutes followed for the attacking Penydarren, as they had an effort from Colvin-Owens cleared off the line by full back Owen Davies, with another goal line clearance made with a header from Trethomas’ Alfie Jones.
But Andrew Diggles’ side hit back to reduce the deficit just before the break through a short-taken free kick.
From the resulting set piece, Adam Jones delivered a great ball to the feet of Dan Richards at the back post, who coolly slotted into the bottom left hand corner past the advancing Stephen Price.
It was the hosts who started better in the second half, putting the visitors under a lot of early pressure. But Penydarren survived this spell with some cunning defending, and sealed victory two minutes from full time.
Substitute Joshua Williams got on the score sheet when he finished across the outstretched goalkeeper into the bottom corner after a neat pull back from Brogden to round off an impressive victory for the travelling side.
